You could just use 'ip' and depend on iproute.  Linux 'ifconfig' is a
90s throwback...

That would indeed be a driver bug.  But I think the user who said this
was confused.  The change is 'permanent' in so far as the wrong MAC
address will persist until dnet-common is removed.

By the way, bug reporters are not automatically subscribed to Debian
bugs so unless you bcc'd them they will not have seen your message.
