Turns out, this was a classical case of PEBKAC. /o\

I had this sourced in my .bashrc:

alias gbp="git-buildpackage"

I think this was from the early days of git-buildpackage, when there was
no gbp command.

Dropping that line, and oh magic, gbp import-orig and sorts works as
expected. Sorry again for the noise.

Might still be worth to add the NEWS entry about the actual removal of
the tools and adjusting the man pages, though.
