Hi, I had a quick tired look yesterday, and I observed that it happens on my machine as well (so it is not mips-specific). It happened when just running "ghc --make Setup; ./Setup configure" directly, it happened with dpkg-buildpackage -d, but not within sbuild, which creates a clean environment. Furthermore it happend both with and without the libghc -cabal-dev package installed.
So it must be something about the environment (environment variables, other packages installed etc.) that causes this. I wonder if the configure is doing something like traversing the whole filesystem which could cause it to do so much more work?
