My pleasure -- the NMU did probably not clean up some bits in the
control.master etc. bits, but it should be good enough to get into testing and
fix the RC bug/avoid being kicked out of testing indeed.

Note that Debian 8 went EOL some time ago. There are some efforts to provide
security update maintenance for it, but that doesn't mean that you still have
to support it upstream -- these security updates would only do selected patch
backports, not new upstream releases. Debian 9 should still be supported
for roughly another half year. (See https://www.debian.org/releases/)
