How about a universal configuration system, using, say, Scheme or something similar. That way we can configure everything either programmatically *or* 'by hand' without any of those crappy config programs! Power for power users, GUI for those who don't want to delve into the guts of stuff. Then, when we're done with that (he he) we can rename things to be more informative. "etc"?
