I would love to keep the ability to install GTK2 libraries (both amd64 and i386)
from Debian repositories. Many non-free Unity3D video games rely on a plugin
named ScreenSelector.so to provide the user with display option (including
setting the main screen and the game window size), this plugin is linked
against GTK2.

A much better option would be a GTK2 → GTK3 compatibility wrapper, like has
been done for SDL 1.2 → SDL 2, but I don’t know of any such wrapper.

Without a package in the archive or a compatibility wrapper, we can expect
a myriad of more-or-less hacky workarounds, leading to breakages due to user
mistakes.

Short version: Please orphan GTK2 instead of removing it.
