Wine is not the only use-case for i386. Even if Wine no longer needs
i386 binaries, native Linux binaries compiled for i386 (32-bit) still
require a subset of the i386 architecture. In practice, this mostly
means non-free games.
In particular, the Steam client and a lot of older games require i386:
not just glibc, but also the user-space graphics stack (Mesa and its
dependencies, and the Nvidia proprietary driver if it is in use on this
particular system).
