I think there is something strange in this discussion: in my experience,
there are MANY current hardware that doesn't require non-free firmware.
I can buy a lot more laptops, desktops, servers that works without
non-free firmware today than I could 10 or 20 years ago.
My current NV41 laptop is one example (although it is a couple of years
old). I recently bought a Protectcli VP2440 to use as a firewall, and
it is another example. My MSI Z790P desktop is another example.
There are several more, and my experience is that a lot of modern
hardware works without non-free stuff if you care about the aspect when
using them (i.e., don't install non-free software on them).
Could you clarify what you mean?
Aren't the NV41, VP2440, Z790P etc valid examples of such hardware from
your point of view?
Or do you consider them marginal ("very little")?
I would disagree with both, but maybe I'm missing some other
explanation.
