The 2.1rX system appears to work reasonably well currently. It would be nice to have more of the popular packages updated and tested on stable. Perhaps a mini-development-cycle for stable updates.. (I believe the existing ideas about a package pool could be put into play here) A more temporary measure would be keeping a list of sites for updated packages for stable that developers maintain. Personally, I hardly ever install a debian kernel package - unless it's a new install and no net connection yet.
