I still think there is merit in having a separate path
component for things that are not very useful when I do not have my
sysadmin hat on.
Indeed, there are a number of machines on which I do not have
priviledges, and there is a special division for admins who
take strong exeption to things being mucked around behind their
backs. On these machines I do not need ifconfig -- and I know where
to get them should I need them for diagnostics -- I just pick the
phone and call someone to have the problem resolved.
I think there is a large contingent of users out there who are
not even part time sysadmins.
Why is it so hard for sysadmins and part tiem sysadmins to
enhance their path?
I think that FHS compliance, and uniformity with other Linux
distributions is important as well.
