Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for replying. I see that the bug is already closed without any action
taken, so I'm a bit confused.

The problem can be solved by copying the orgguide.info.gz file to
/usr/share/info:

     sudo cp /usr/share/doc/org-mode-doc/orgguide.info.gz /usr/share/info
but not with this method.

Yes I know, it's just how I made it work on my machine. I don't know how
info-files are supposed to be handled by a package.

Would you please try uninstalling elpa-org-mode as well as org-mode-doc?
Then install emacs-common-non-dfsg and try to reproduce this bug,
because it's possible that it is also present in src:emacs itself (Emacs
contains a bundled copy of org-mode). If that's the case then we'll
need to clone this bug. Please let me know 🙂

I wanted to check the Emacs documentation from within Emacs, and I was puzzled
to discover the it was not available in Emacs' own help system. So I installed
emacs-common-non-dfsg and then it worked.

I then wanted to see if other important docs were missing, so I checked "Org Mode", and
it was there. Then I checked "Org Guide", the menu item was already listed on the main
help screen, but the text itself was missing.

So I installed the org-mode-doc package, but was puzzled to discover that it was
STILL missing from within Emacs. I then quickly copied the
orgguide.info<http://orgguide.info/>.gz file to /usr/share/info and then it
worked.

The maintainers of the package should consider creating a link to
orgguide.info.gz in /usr/share/info. Many other files in that directory
are links to /etc/alternatives, I don't know if that is necessary.

Hmm. Please see the other org-mode and org-mode-doc bugs because your
suggestion touches on this: new org-mode-doc doesn't shadow old
Emacs-bundled copy of the info pages.

I don't know enough Debian Maintainer Guide details to say how it's done, I
reported the bug from the point-of-view of an ordinary user who just installes
the documentation assuming that it will be available in Emacs. I filed a bug
report to be helpful, but it being closed right away is disheartening and
persuades me not to bother to report bugs to Debian again. A bug is a bug even
if FTP Masters won't consider it for Bookworm.

Sincerely,
Morten
