Actually, Debian is much easier to configure than Gnome IMO. I have installed Netscape and much other software with apt-get or dselect, but I haven't a clue about adding a launcher to Gnome. You assume to much about the technical abilities of Debian users. But Netscape is not part of Debian, and should not have pride of place in the official Debian distribution.
