If it provides that virtual package, then yes.

Package java-virtual-machine is a virtual package provided by:
  j2sdk1.3 1.3.1-1
  orp 1:1.0.5-2
  kaffe 1:1.0.6-6
  jdk1.1 1.1.8v1-3
  ibm-jdk1.1-installer 1.1.8-3
  java-virtual-machine-dummy 0.3
You should explicitly select one to install.

Nope, it isn't.

Please have libgcj2 provide java-virtual-machine.  gcj already provides
java-compiler.
