I *have* KDE built with the following inserted into the debian/rules of all KDE packages that seem to want it: # GCC 3.2 defines export CC = gcc-3.2 export CXX = g++-3.2 export CPP = cpp-3.2 XFree86 was compiled (a month ago) without any fussing about which compiler, etc., I used (e.g. a sraight "debuild -b -uc -us").
