The option INITRAMFS_LOOPAES for mkinitramfs is explained in the file /usr/share/doc/loop-aes-utils/README. I think it would be more appropriate to include a short explanation in the initram-tools config files. So that one can spot the information more easily. A starting point could be a file /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/loopaes with the following content: ################## # Support for encrypted root using loop-aes # # INITRAMFS_LOOPAES : [ auto | no | yes ] # # auto : Determine from /etc/fstab if the root device is encrypted and # add support for it if needed # yes : Add support for encrypted root device # no : Don't add support for encrypted root device # INITRAMFS_LOOPAES=auto ################## Thanks for your time, Thomas Braun -- Package-specific info: -- /proc/cmdline root=LABEL=lenny ro -- /proc/filesystems ext3 fuseblk xfs -- lsmod Module Size Used by ppdev 6500 0 lp 8164 0 vmnet 33632 15 vmblock 11652 3 vmci 44052 1 vmmon 60400 6 nls_utf8 1760 5 cifs 208692 5 nls_base 6820 2 nls_utf8,cifs ipv6 235364 23 xfs 457976 1 fuse 42908 1 dm_snapshot 14340 0 dm_mirror 15104 0 dm_log 8484 1 dm_mirror dm_mod 46184 3 dm_snapshot,dm_mirror,dm_log eepro100 25168 0 mii 4896 1 eepro100 snd_emu10k1_synth 5664 0 snd_emux_synth 27904 1 snd_emu10k1_synth snd_seq_virmidi 4896 1 snd_emux_synth snd_seq_midi_emul 5376 1 snd_emux_synth snd_emu10k1 114976 3 snd_emu10k1_synth firmware_class 6816 1 snd_emu10k1 snd_ac97_codec 88484 1 snd_emu10k1 ac97_bus 1728 1 snd_ac97_codec snd_pcm_oss 32832 0 snd_mixer_oss 12320 2 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 62596 3 snd_emu10k1,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_page_alloc 7816 2 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm snd_util_mem 4032 2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1 snd_hwdep 6212 2 snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1 k8temp 4064 0 snd_seq_dummy 2660 0 parport_pc 22500 1 parport 30988 3 ppdev,lp,parport_pc snd_seq_oss 24992 0 snd_seq_midi 5728 0 i2c_viapro 6836 0 pcspkr 2432 0 snd_rawmidi 18528 3 snd_seq_virmidi,snd_emu10k1,snd_seq_midi i2c_core 19828 1 i2c_viapro snd_seq_midi_event 6432 3 snd_seq_virmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi snd_seq 41456 9 snd_emux_synth,snd_seq_virmidi,snd_seq_midi_emul,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_seq_midi_event snd_timer 17800 3 snd_emu10k1,snd_pcm,snd_seq snd_seq_device 6380 8 snd_emu10k1_synth,snd_emux_synth,snd_emu10k1,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq snd 45604 15 snd_emux_synth,snd_seq_virmidi,snd_emu10k1,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_hwdep,snd_seq_oss,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq,snd_timer,snd_seq_device emu10k1_gp 2688 0 gameport 10700 2 emu10k1_gp shpchp 25528 0 pci_hotplug 23460 1 shpchp soundcore 6368 2 snd button 6096 0 amd64_agp 8772 1 agpgart 28776 1 amd64_agp evdev 8000 3 usbhid 35904 0 hid 33184 1 usbhid ff_memless 4392 1 usbhid ext3 105512 1 jbd 39444 1 ext3 mbcache 7108 1 ext3 ide_disk 10496 0 ide_cd_mod 27652 0 cdrom 30176 1 ide_cd_mod sd_mod 22200 4 floppy 47748 0 uhci_hcd 18672 0 ehci_hcd 28396 0 usbcore 118224 4 usbhid,uhci_hcd,ehci_hcd via82cxxx 6948 0 [permanent] ohci1394 24944 0 sata_via 6980 3 ata_generic 4676 0 libata 140416 2 sata_via,ata_generic scsi_mod 129324 2 sd_mod,libata dock 8304 1 libata ieee1394 75800 1 ohci1394 ide_pci_generic 3908 0 [permanent] ide_core 96136 4 ide_disk,ide_cd_mod,via82cxxx,ide_pci_generic r8169 23684 0 thermal 15228 0 processor 32544 1 thermal fan 4164 0 thermal_sys 10856 3 thermal,processor,fan loop 55372 1 -- /etc/kernel-img.conf do_symlinks = no relative_links = yes do_bootloader = no do_bootfloppy = no do_initrd = yes link_in_boot = no postinst_hook = update-grub postrm_hook = update-grub ramdisk=/usr/sbin/mkinitramfs-kpkg -- /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf MODULES=most BUSYBOX=y KEYMAP=n BOOT=local DEVICE=eth0 NFSROOT=auto INITRAMFS_LOOPAES=auto -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.1 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-2-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages initramfs-tools depends on: ii cpio 2.9-13 GNU cpio -- a program to manage ar ii findutils 4.4.0-2 utilities for finding files--find, ii klibc-utils 1.5.12-2 small utilities built with klibc f ii module-init-tools 3.4-1 tools for managing Linux kernel mo ii udev 0.125-7+lenny1 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo Versions of packages initramfs-tools recommends: ii busybox 1:1.10.2-2 Tiny utilities for small and embed initramfs-tools suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
