Just where is this one standing? I thought we'd reached a consensus that packages should NOT use rc.boot, but it should be left for sysadmins because it's useful and update-rc.d isn't the simplest thing in the world. > Permit/require use of bz2 for source packages (#39299) > * Old. > * Proposed on 10 Jun 1999 by Chris Lawrence; seconded by Goswin > Brederlow. > * "I propose that we permit the use of bzip2 to compress source > package files (.orig.tar and .diff for most packages, .tar for > native packages). This is a very contentious proposal. > ) The problem with this proposal is that it requires something most people don't want to require. If Chris would like to ammend the proposal such that the upstream source CAN be bz2, but preference is still .gz if the upstream comes as .gz, I'll second the ammendment. It also helps if he wants to be the one to make dpkg-source and dpkg-buildpackage work with bz2's.. ;> > Contact address for virtual package name list (#26159) > * Old. > * Proposed by Adam di Carlo. > * Contact name in virtual-packages-list should be debian-policy, not > Christian Schwarz. > ( This *must* be implemented, possibly by referring to the > policy-modification process. ) I'd implement this as a necessary executive change and say to hell with proposals and seconds and ammendments and suchlike.
