The problem seems to occur when also using xserver-common/-svga in version 3.3.6; on another computer with xserver v.4.x everything is fine. Downgrading the xfonts-75dpi package to version 4.0.3-4 fixes the problem (sorry, I did not yet have the time for a closer examination). I am using Debian Woody, kernel 2.2.19pre11 and libc6 2.2.4-1.
