I have posted your patch in a merge request on salsa [1] for the maintainer's convenience. I also fixed an error in the d/sddm.install control file whereby the destination was given as a filename when it should have been a directory. For systemd this is covered by: After=systemd-user-sessions.service systemd-logind.service For reference, the gdm3 package has included this snippet for many years, slim just acquired it and it is pending for lightdm.
