It's going to.  I expect the upstream maintainers to reject it for no 
technical reason, simply out of hostility to firmware loading.  Of course,
I hope not.  We'll see.

The firmware isn't needed on the vast majority of tg3 boards!
Yes, it would inconvenience a small number of users!  Yes, that is good 
faith!
