Hello stable release managers,
I'd like to request removal of suricata/1:6.0.10-1 from the upcoming Debian
Bookworm 12.14 release because of security reasons. The upstream support
for Suricata 6.x ended Aug 2024 [1] and security patches are not
feasible any more.
There is also bug #1134367 requesting suricata/1:6.0.10-1 to be
marked EOL in debian-security-support, so the removal will prevent users
installing Bookworm from accidentally installing an EOL'ed package.
For users, there is an upgrade path to Trixie via bookworm-backports
by installing suricata/1:7.0.10-1~bpo12+1.
This request was discussed with package maintainer Sascha (@satta) as
well as with Moritz (@jmm) from the Debian Security Team.
suricata has these rdepends:
- Depends: none
- Recommends:
- fever (removal not needed)
- Suggests: none
Thanks and regards,
Andreas

We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from oldstable:
suricata | 1:6.0.10-1 | source, amd64, arm64, armel, armhf, i386, mips64el,
mipsel, ppc64el, s390x
------------------- Reason -------------------
RoM; unsupportable; possible security issues; maintained via backports
----------------------------------------------
Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive and will not propagate to any mirrors until the next
dinstall run at the earliest.
Packages are usually not removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems. The release team can force a removal from testing if it is
really needed, please contact them if this should be the case.
Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.
The version of this package that was in Debian prior to this removal
can still be found using https://snapshot.debian.org/.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to [email protected].
