Please unblock package intel-microcode This package contains a data file with microcode for Intel CPUs. The update script for users to get that updates for that file has been broken for a while, and was not fixed yet. Therefore, the only way an user will get an update of the microcode datafile is by directly downloading it from Intel, or through a intel-microcode package update. Intel doesn't disclose much about what the microcode updates do, and they often correct very hard-to-hit bugs with low impact. However, that is not always true, and some of these updates do fix critical processor bugs. Based on the release dates, this update is known to have microcode that fixes critical bugs on several processors: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02078984&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=3718668&prodTypeId=12454 unblock intel-microcode/0.20100826-1 -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32.21 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=pt_BR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=pt_BR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-release-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
