Although no consensus has been reached, some members of the team which
maintains libav have expressed their opinions:

http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-multimedia-maintainers/2014-August/040416.html

A brief summary follows:

   Reinhard Tartler: voted libav
Bálint Réczey: voted for ffmpeg (he'd like to see ffmpeg at least
entering experimental)
   Alessio Treglia: voted for libav
Matteo F. Vescovi: voted for libav for the upcoming Jessie release
Fabian Greffrath: voted for libav for the upcoming Jessie release
Jonas Smedegaard: voted for libav for the upcoming Jessie release

Cheers.
