Hello together,

We from openSUSE have provided such a series of training already 2024.
I want to invite all people, who want to learn s390x (mainframes) for
developing for Linux on Z.
Why do we invite you? We are watching you as a Partner and as a part of the
open source community, who should be able to work also on LinuxONE systems.
Based on the fact, that the LinuxONE (OSS) Community Cloud is on z15 based
systems at the moment, also the training will cover only the Z architecture for
z15 (no AI or Post Quantum Cryptography!).

Are you a Package Maintainer or in general Linux Developer/Tester interested
what is behind the architecture s390x or do you want to refresh your knowledge
about mainframes? Our trainings are bi-weekly at 19:00 (German time)/ 10:00
(Pacific time)/ 18:00 (Nigeria) / 14:00 (Brazil)! We will start with an
introduction about mainframes 17th March 2026. You will receive every weekend
before the next training session an overview about the next topics. Afterwards,
you will receive an introduction into mainframe specific interfaces and tools
with an hands-on training. Then the Z architecture training will follow with
the goal of a better understanding, why such applications have got such
specific errors. We will apply this knowledge in our Linux distributions as a
next step.
We are open for your own ideas and suggestions, what you want to know. We can
add it!

I am happy about the offer by Lyz (my Partner at the Linux Distributions
Working Group), that we can receive also a s390x enablement session by somebody
from IBM in Poughkeepsie! You can answer, if you want to become an additional
Trainer. :-)
The other sessions will be led by Sarah Julia Kriesch and Ihno Krumreich.

Sarah Julia Kriesch wrote her Bachelor Thesis at IBM and has received the
responsibility for openSUSE zSystems afterwards. She is one Founder of the
Linux Distributions Working Group at The Open Mainframe Project and is a Go-To
Person at Open Source Events for Upstream Developers regarding VMs for s390x or
other help. Her main job title is Mainframe Architect – Open Source. She is
enjoying the work at Kyndryl without any IBM regulatories, that she can
interact pro all in the open source community.

Ihno Krumreich is the former/retired Project Manager for s390x from SUSE. He
has joined the openSUSE zSystems team and loves knowledge sharing. He wants to
invest this energy for enabling the Linux and open source community in Linux on
Z development.

Best regards,
Sarah
