I'm an idiot, and I gave you bad advice.

dpkg -r /var/cache/apt/archives would work and would resolve the
dependencies (and would take a long time).

Is it "-r" or "-R" to install everything in a directory?  I haven't
done it in years and I'm sending this from a netBSD system, so I
don't have the man page to hand.
