Have you tried vesa mode ? It will be slow, but it might work. I have an
LTE 5280, with a CL GD7543 chip, which is totally unsupported in X 4.x,
which works with vesa. It worked better with X 3.3.6, where the chip was
supported directly. 
You might want to try to download X (the xfree86-common and
xfree86-svga) packages from potato, which were (IIRC) 3.3.6. They should
work (they work fine on my LTE 5280, which is more or less current
unstable for the rest).
