Why do U want to do a 'kill' when U can stop the daemon 'xdm' ? Typing '/etc/init.d/xdm stop' at the CLI is a better go. Do an 'xf86config' after that. Restart the daemon 'xdm' after testing out with the X -probeonly test, by typing '/etc/init.d/xdm start'. Debian offers very elegant solutions for many problems. ragOO, VU2RGU.
