Its not clear from the original whether there is anything in /usr/local at this point. I would assume there is, and would suggest that, if not already there, a new directory called /usr/local/tmp should be used instead of /usr/local. Then you don't need to worry about the stuff in /tmp getting mixed in with the stuff already in the /usr/local directory.
