if you are a newbiw and want to try linux, then i suggest you install corel, mandrake or redhat. For a debian based distribution try storm linux...
debian installation is not a sys admins hell, a good sysadmin should know what they are doing. He obviously preferred the ease of installation of redhat. Each to his own i guess.
