Yes, stable is very secure, if you put the security deb uris in your sources.list, fixes are available within hours of publication of vulnerability, often. Also, debian does not enable so many services by default as some other distributions do. When you want a service, you must install and configure it yourself. Usually this is very easy, because many maintainers make their packages configure themself automatically during installation. Sometimes, debian like to assume that you know what you are doing, though. There is no "alias rm='rm -i'" in the debian /etc/profile. Cheers, Joost
