I've had devfs and lvm issues with the proposed-updates 2.4.20 kernel. Installing woody, dist-upgrading to proposed-updates, installing lvm and debians 2.4.20 kernel, reboot to new kernel, start creating logical partitions, don't work. I bet mounting devfs on /dev would work, but I just rebuilt the 2.4.20 kernel without devfs. Just a friendly warning if you use lvm.
