I'm not so sure about any of this... I do run RedHat on my router machine and have done so since before I knew much about Linux at all. I installed it blindly using the "server" package selection and didn't really set anything up myself. As you see below, it looks to me like UDMA is enabled just fine. I have also never had any IO problems on this RedHat box, although I can never be sure if it's a RedHat/Debian problem or a Dell/Homebrew problem ;-) [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# dmesg | grep ^hd | grep sector hda: 39102336 sectors (20020 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=2434/255/63, UDMA(33) I haven't had a chance to go verify the DMA settings on my Debian file server box yet, but I'll definitely post something when I find out how its DMA is doing. Also I want to thank everyone for their input so far. Like I said, I haven't had a chance to really experiment with these suggestions yet but I'm becoming optimistic about the situation. I don't think I'll switch to ReiserFS due to its lack of repair tools (thanks to Alfredo for this info). -- Aaron Bieber - Graphic Design // Web Design http://www.core-dev.com/ [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
