I actually just helped a friend get his Sarge server to have updated packages. Just Google "apt-pinning" (With or without quotes, doesn't matter). I'd link you right to the page but I'm running a terminal-only session right now (I have no idea how to actually copy/paste URLs from terminal sessions). Before you upgrade though, I would purge all php4 related packages from your computer. I would also highly advise upgrading to Apache2 (If you don't have it already).
