Replying to myself here. Yes, it helps. I searched the closets at the office and found a dvi cable. Change the cable, reboot and vesa works fine with 1280x1024 resolution. So with this, I'll manage for now. Hopefully the integrated graphics will eventually work with Intel xorg driver.
