When the machine locks, try to access it via ssh.

Yours was a very "broad" question, nothing that can be answered with "yes 
or no" or "go here, read and you're done" ;-)

Understanding the bottoms of a kernel oops or panic is something only 
kernel devels or people with high knowledge of C can achieve.
