When I add this chunk of text into my "~/.fonts.conf" file, the PDF is rendered correctly: <?xml version="1.0"?> <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd"> <fontconfig> <alias binding="same"> <family>Symbol</family> <prefer><family>DejaVu Serif</family></prefer> </alias> </fontconfig> "DejaVu Serif" font can be replaced by another one.
