   Thank you for your help.

   Is there something simple and safe that I can do to
try clearing the droppings?  Unfortunately, neither
claws-mail nor iceweasel is working now.  Both give
a message about being unable to start an X-window.

    After I have tried to free up sufficient space, what
command do I use to try to resume the interrupted
update that started this trouble?
