Okay.

Done that - "Mark(ed) for complete removal".

And Debian 6 still cannot find the external monitor.

A thought - since Ubuntu 12.04 successfully installed the nvVidia
driver 3.31, how do I find, download, and install a .deb package
within the Ubuntu repository?

I am assuming that the driver is as a package in the Ubuntu repository
- it was found via "Additional drivers", although Ubuntu 12.04 was
successfully running the external monitor, both before and after the
installation of the nvidia 3.31 driver.
