Wikipedia <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CUPS> has conflicting information. At the top of the page, it claims CUPS stands for "Common Unix Printing System", but without a reference. At the bottom of the page, it claims: CUPS was initially called "The Common UNIX Printing System". This name was shortened to just "CUPS" beginning with CUPS 1.4 due to legal concerns with the UNIX trademark.[citation needed] This seems like one of those situations where Everyone Knows what the truth is ("Common Unix Printing System"), but corporations and lawyers require the Official Story to be a thin facade of lies. But that's just my take.
