One practical point: it isn't possible to upgrade from a 32-bit
installation to a 64-bit one, it's a reinstall job. I did actually have
a go once, but quickly got bogged down with 'do A before B, and do B
before A'.


For miscellaneous personal reasons I always do a full install when moving to a new version. Essentially it means I have a known fully functional install on its own partition to fall back on. /home is on a separate partition available to any release.
