I believe the default local-part of the From address in Alpine is
derived (as is the default personal name part) from the system password
file (user login name). Pressing S (SETUP) in the main menu, then C
(CONFIG) and adding the From value desired to the Customized Headers
field should provide a satisfactory solution:

  From: Pierre Frenkiel <p.frenk...@laposte.net>

Then again, if memory serves, it often appears in your always very
individual case whatever is suggested either doesn't work, or even if it
does, turns out somehow to be suboptimal. YMISTV (Your Mileage
Invariably Seems To Vary).
