That kind of quick&dirty hack is fairly dangerous in the long run: as they accumulate, they increase the risk that one of them will lead to a completely unexpected behavior that nobody can predict/understand. Quick&dirty hacks are very handy, and I use them on a regular basis, but if experience has taught me anything its that they have to be short term and hence accompanied with a parallel effort to try&fix the origin of the problem.
