Greg, my intention was to suggest the page to wider auditorium rather
than directly to you. Your message made me thinking that web search
sometimes is redundant. I added the link as a kind as of extra material.
I was not going to say that the page is wrong, otherwise I would not
post the link. Is my phrase so rude? Certainly, I believe, there is
enough room for improvements, but I do not expect it from you, Gred, due
to another scope of expertise.
In my opinion, the article describes the feature as specific to X11, so
it may cause impression that it is not supported by Wayland composers
(perhaps some of them really do not allow it).
From my point of view, xmodmap should be suggested as the very last
option, only when even setxkbmap is undesired for some reason, IBus is
not used, etc. It should be prepended by an advice for novice users to
use installer, system wide configuration, or GUI settings dialog
provided by desktop environment. Those, who need xmodmap, should be
experienced enough to skip almost obvious instructions.
Ideally the page should have links to https://wiki.debian.org/Keyboard
or to sections on keyboard configuration in the articles describing
desktop environments. Details in "XCompose" should be minimal.
Unfortunately it requires enough work. I am in doubts if the "Keyboard"
article is helpful or mostly confusing one.
Alternatives like ibus-table-latex or emoji picker might be mentioned.
Despite I am aware of some features that I tried several years ago, I am
hesitant about adding them to wiki articles since I am unsure concerning
current state of affairs.
