Update: I found a reasonable way to run a test. No, that doesn't work, you can't ping from a computer connected to one of the Rj45 plugs to or from a computer connected on the other Rj45. Now all I need you to do is come to my house and plug that one Ethernet cable, tangled among a tangled mess of other cables back into the Ethernet switch that is partially embedded in the mess. ;-)
