Ok I see what you mean in your first mail. Perhaps a better answer : it is a bad idea to use /etc/fetchmailrc as you will have identifiers in it. It is safer to run fetchmail with a non root user and thus use a ~/.fetchmailrc with restricted access. /etc/cron.d/fetchmail uses a user fetchmail for this (hum perhaps I modified it ?).
