OK. I can see how that would help if you're using nscd and the resolver is giving back failures. Do we know why Vincent's DNS resolver is returning SERVFAIL more than expected? Presumably in my case where I do use nscd and in my nsswitch.conf I have: hosts: files dns then my nscd is also going to cache failures from my DNS resolver. I'm not sure I am bothered about that as I think I would rather fix the DNS resolver in that case.
