You raise valid concerns. My intention was that if there is init.d script that works, it must still be maintained. On other hand, if software has non-configurable dependency on systemd, and making it work without systemd requires source patching, it classfies as "upstream design". -- Note, that I send and fetch email in batch, once in a few days.
