I don't want to derail -vote by getting into the weeds on your GR, but from what I remember I don't think it would be fair to take your experience and generalise it to the GR process. Context is very important and there was a long thread on -devel prior to raising the GR which I think is relevant to understand the prevailing attitudes in that case.
