Situation: you want to convince an audience of "A" somebody else wants to convince the audience of "not A". You make five arguments for "A". The other person finds that one of your five arguments is not exactly correct. This must mean that "not A" is correct. Now that you bring up "smoking" as an analogy, there is a great movie which I felt reminded of and which shows parallels to the discussion in this sub-thread right now.
