You don't run them on the project machines, but on your personal system. Here's a page documenting how you can create a git-svn checkout (example is for D-I, but should work for any SVN repo): http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/git-svn One nice thing about git-svn is that you can choose whether you want full history or not. After running git-gc, the overhead should be relatively small. I for one am _very_ happy with the choice of SVN.
