Then I think you should propose it to bug-coreutils@gnu.org for inclusion along with a pointer to it. However, please check the copyright (I heard it is MIT X) and maybe the copyright holder, as the FSF is doing copyright assignments. In the worest case, they tell us somebody needs to rewrite it who has copyright assignments for coreutils on file, either because of copyright assignment or coding style issues.
